Ginger Sprout

I planted a 3-inch segment of ginger into an unused section of the raised beds, just to see how it'd do.  A month later, it looks like it's doing quite well.

Towering above the chard seedlings.

I use ginger quite frequently, dried or fresh in hot or cold teas.  We also use it to spice up stir-fries and chicken soups, and don't juice or eat sushi without it.  It may not be the most economical plant to grow since ginger isn't too expensive for an herb, but I use it often, so it'd be wise to test how it fares in my climate.

It grows well in shade, so I might end up moving it further under the fruit trees where it can spread out and discourage the puppy from digging.

The herb I really should grow is turmeric, since it is amazingly helpful for me as an asthma/congestion/inflammation remedy when I get sick.  The fresh stuff would probably be quite potent.  It is a relative of ginger, so if the ginger does well, I will have to find a turmeric rhizome.
