I was pretty stunned at the question, and am pretty sure my jaw dropped as the seconds took minutes to pass. I might have actually drooled from the shock. Was she stupid? Was she freaking crazy? She didn't look like she was joking.
And she wasn't the first person to ask me that question.
There are so many projects swirling around in my head that have been itching for the time and energy to spring forth into life! There are so many delayed home improvement projects to do in our first owned home! The garden is just screaming for planning and attention! I have a husband to support, a dog to train, friendships to kindle, and nature to hike! There's a whole bookshelf of sci-fi and fantasy novels I have yet to read, and cookbooks containing literally hundreds of recipes I have yet to try. And don't even get me started on all the baby-makin' that will be happening, hehehe.
Even if I did nothing but craft, garden, blog, make our house a home, and raise a family, the scientist within would be supremely satisfied and fully occupied. For decades.
One of my Dad's best life lessons: "Only boring people get bored." The implication has always been that if you are not intelligent enough to figure out what to do with your time, then you'll get bored. I took that one to heart early on.
Me and Dad... even drinking water is exciting!
I can only imagine that people who think I will be bored are at the very least... well, not smart enough to figure out how to entertain themselves. I feel kinda cruel saying that, but sugar-coating it doesn't do any good. We will see what happens in 2014, but I have a hunch that I'll be thrilled to finally have time to put my creativity to use.
The next childhood lesson from Dad that should be covered: "Daddy, make me a sandwich." "POOF! You're a sandwich."
What keeps you from being bored?
